Year 12 is an exciting time. You have completed your GCSEs, had a well earned rest and are now embarking upon new courses. For some of you, making decisions about future options may seem to be over for now and not likely to become important again for a long time.

The new 16-19 Bursary is to help those students aged 16-19 who are in greatest need, in meeting the costs of participating in post-16 education and training.

Over the last few months many changes have been announced to the way university and higher education is going to be funded from 2012 .  Despite these changes higher education can be hugely rewarding; it can lead to increased earning potential, a wider range of opportunities and a more fulfilling career.

From September 2012 EMA will be replaced by a new £180m new bursary scheme to help the most vulnerable 16-19 year-olds. There are transitional arrangements for those currently receiving EMA .
