Apprenticeships allow you to develop skills and knowledge in a chosen sector or industry. Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of sector areas including Accountancy, Business Administration, ICT, Construction, Retail and many more.
There are two types of apprenticeships:
Apprenticeship (equivalent to five A* - C passes at GCSE)
Advanced Apprenticeship (equivalent to two A Level Passes).
Your apprenticeship programme will include three components:
- National Vocational Qualification (this is linked to the topic of your apprenticeship and will be at Level 2 for apprenticeships and Level 3 for advanced apprenticeships).
- Functional or key skills - these are linked to Maths, English and ICT
- Technical Certificate

You must have the ability to achieve an NVQ Level 3 and the associated Key Skills for your employment sector. The Employer/Learning Provider will set the entry requirements for the employment opportunity depending on the skills and qualifications required by the company. Most Advanced Apprenticeships frameworks also require the completion of a Technical Certificate.
Recruitment takes place via the Training Provider or the employer by means of a selection process. You will be required to attend an interview along with other applicants. An Advanced Apprentice will generally be employed by the company and receive a wage for the job. Rates will vary but should reflect the standards within the chosen industry. Rates paid will not be less than £95.00 per week.
